Tiramisu Cake Recipe
The tiramisu cake recipe is simple to prepare. This recipe for tiramisu is the traditional one, using coffee and ladyfingers biscuits.
There are some tiramisu cake recipes that add liquors and other ingredients that are not included in the original one. Personally I do not like it, as it changes its original and characteristic flavour. The "real" one is a mouth-filling cream dessert, not a dry tart as seen in many restaurants and bars. The traditional tiramisu recipe is simple and can be done by anyone. Some say it's called like that (tiramisu means pick me up in English) just because it contains coffee and so it "wakes" and picks one up. |
Others say that this soft cake was created in XVII century in Siena, when some pastry chefs decided to prepare a sweet for the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Cosimo de Medici. Legend says that the tiramisu cake recipe became the favorite desert of noblemen who attributed aphrodisiac and exciting properties to this Italian dessert recipe, explaining the reason for its name. |

Another version says that a Turin pastry chef, wishing to support the Count of Cavour in his difficult enterprise of unifying Italy, created the tiramisu cake recipe.
To prepare the best Italian tiramisu recipe, it's extremely important to use good and "original" ingredients to have the best result, suchy as the ones that I am suggesting to you here.
As for the whole Italian cuisine, the quality of the ingredients will make the difference. You won't be able to create delicious recipes with low quality ingredients.
My sister-in-law has the best tiramisu cake recipe and uses this mascarpone brand and Lavazza coffee as well.
You'll need:
• 6 yolks
• 3 egg whites
• half cup of sugar
• 1 Mascarpone cheese
(of 8.75 ounces)
• 1 cup of Italian coffee
• 1 package of Savoiardi
(ladyfingers)
• 2 tablespoons of powdered cocoa
• half a tablespoon of istant coffee grains
How to do it:
Beat the yolks with the sugar until smooth. Add the mascarpone cheese and set aside.
Beat the egg whites until stiff and add to the other mix.
I prefer to prepare the tiramisu cake recipe using a pan like the ones used for bread. Otherwise, just take a square pan (maybe a Pyrex if you have a rectangular one, about 10 cm wide, as it'll be easier for you to place the ladyfingers on the sides and bottom and then start making layers) and begin with the first layer of biscuits moistened in the coffee.
tip # 1: Moisten the first biscuits only slightly, as they are going to be the lower ones and will automatically get more cream and coffee from the ones that will be above them).
Pour over a layer of the mixture and sprinkle a little instant coffee on top of it. (It is a great tip that will add a special touch of taste to your tiramisu cake recipe. Sprinkle some cocoa powder over the mixture and repeat until all the biscuits have been used. The last layer should be the mixture, topped with powdered cocoa and coffee.
Place in the refrigerator for at least 5 hours.
tip # 2: I used to cut it into individual portions, plastic wrap it and freeze. When I wanted to eat, a minute in the microwave and it was like having it freshly prepared!
Tiramisu is the most traditional and common Italian dessert. It is usually made for parties, for special occasions, for birthdays and quite any occasion is good for this mouthfilling dessert..
Restaurants have it on their menu so as young girls learn how to prepare it for their first parties or reunions amongst friends.
If you come to Italy, you will find it in many other ways, such as gelato (ice cream), biscuits, pies, panettoni and even snacks named and flavored Tiramisu.
Serve your tiramisu cake recipe using these Italian decorated dishes. You will feel like being in Italy! |
